[Remember] that you were at that time separated (living apart) from Christ [excluded from all part in Him], utterly estranged and outlawed from the rights of Israel as a nation, and strangers with no share in the sacred compacts of the [Messianic] promise [with no knowledge of or right in God's agreements, His covenants]. And you had no hope (no promise); you were in the world without God.
Christ brought us together through his death on the cross. The Cross got us to embrace, and that was the end of the hostility. Christ came and preached peace to you outsiders and peace to us insiders. He treated us as equals, and so made us equals. Through him we both share the same Spirit and have equal access to the Father.
And this is God’s plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God’s children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus.
We pleaded with you, encouraged you, and urged you to live your lives in a way that God would consider worthy, for he called you to share in his Kingdom and glory.
How joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying his commands … Light shines in the darkness for the godly… They are generous, compassionate, and righteous. They share freely and give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will be remembered forever. They will have influence and honor.
And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.

God has left us in the world to witness to the world.
