Guide

a WORD from God's Book
(photo: Steamboat Springs, CO)
________________________________________________________________________________
"The people I love, I call to account—prod and correct and guide so that they'll live at their best. Up on your feet, then! About face! Run after God!

The LORD says, "I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.

Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by any evil.

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not be presenting his own ideas; he will be telling you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.

The LORD will guide you continually, watering your life when you are dry and keeping you healthy, too. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.

"Here is a simple, rule-of-thumb guide for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them.

Revelation 3:19 Psalm 32:8 Psalm 119:133 John 16:13 Isaiah 58:11 Matthew 7:12

Gold

a WORD from God's Book
(photo: Naples -Long Beach,CA)
____________________________________________________________________________
Truly, I love your commands more than gold, even the finest gold.

"Choose my instruction rather than silver, and knowledge over pure gold.

But he knows where I am going. And when he has tested me like gold in a fire, he will pronounce me innocent.

My gifts are better than the purest gold, my wages better than sterling silver!

18 For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom he paid was not mere gold or silver. 19 He paid for you with the precious lifeblood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.

Fair

a WORD from God's Book
(photo: Hwy 165 near Bishop Castle,CO) )
__________________________________________________________________________________
Reverence for the LORD is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the LORD are true; each one is fair.

God is a judge who is perfectly fair. He is angry with the wicked every day

The ones who can live here are those who are honest and fair, who reject making a profit by fraud, who stay far away from bribes, who refuse to listen to those who plot murder, who shut their eyes to all enticement to do wrong.

Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will know how to find the right course of action every time.

[ Blessings for All Nations ] "Be just and fair to all," says the LORD. "Do what is right and good, for I am coming soon to rescue you.

And he (God) is entirely fair and just in this present time when he declares sinners to be right in his sight because they believe in Jesus.

Psalm 19:9 Psalm 7:11 Isaiah 33:15 Proverbs 2:9 Isaiah 56:1 Romans 3:26

God's word

a WORD from God's Book
(photo: Eagle Lake (above Lake Tahoe,CA)

"Is God's comfort too little for you? Is his gentle word not enough?

And the Scriptures also say, "He is the stone that makes people stumble, the rock that will make them fall." They stumble because they do not listen to God's word or obey it

25 And you husbands must love your wives with the same love Christ showed the church. He gave up his life for her 26 to make her holy and clean, washed by baptism and God's word. 27 He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault.

I have written to you, children, because you have known the Father. I have written to you who are mature because you know Christ, the one who is from the beginning. I have written to you who are young because you are strong with God's word living in your hearts, and you have won your battle with Satan.

But those who obey God's word really do love him. That is the way to know whether or not we live in him.

Job 15:11 1 Peter 2:8 Ephesians 5:26 (25-27) 1 John 2:14 1 John 2:5

Shadow

a WORD from God's Book
(photo: Breckenridge,CO)
_______________________________________________________________________________
Because of God's tender mercy, the light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace."

the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light. And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow, a light has shined.

Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.

[ Christs Sacrifice Once for All ] The old system in the law of Moses was only a shadow of the things to come, not the reality of the good things Christ has done for us.

As a result of the apostles' work, sick people were brought out into the streets on beds and mats so that Peter's shadow might fall across some of them as he went by.

Directs

a WORD from God's Book
(photo: Steamboat Springs,CO)
________________________________________________________________________
There's more: God's Word warns us of danger and directs us to hidden treasure.

How can we understand the road we travel? It is the LORD who directs our steps.

A man's mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps and makes them sure.

[ God Examines Our Motives ] Good leadership is a channel of water controlled by God; he directs it to whatever ends he chooses.

This is what the LORD says … "I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.

But you are not living the life of the flesh, you are living the life of the Spirit, if the [Holy] Spirit of God [really] dwells within you [directs and controls you].

Rock

a WORD from God's Book
(photo: Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs)
_____________________________________________________________________________
Trust in the LORD always, for the LORD GOD is the eternal Rock.

The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the strength of my salvation, and my stronghold.

He turned the rock into pools of water; yes, springs of water came from solid rock.
and all of them drank the same miraculous water. For they all drank from the miraculous rock that traveled with them, and that rock was Christ.

God warned them of this in the Scriptures when he said, "I am placing a stone in Jerusalem that causes people to stumble, and a rock that makes them fall. But anyone who believes in him will not be disappointed. "

Do not tremble; do not be afraid. Have I not proclaimed from ages past what my purposes are for you? You are my witnesses--is there any other God? No! There is no other Rock--not one!"

Now he cares for you more than ever when he remembers the way you listened to him and welcomed him with such respect and deep concern.

Refreshed

a WORD from God's Book
(photo: Flying W ranch, Colorado Springs)
______________________________________________________________________________

I will be to Israel like a refreshing dew from heaven. It will blossom like the lily; it will send roots deep into the soil like the cedars in Lebanon.

The wild animals in the fields will thank me, the jackals and ostriches, too, for giving them water in the wilderness. Yes, I will make springs in the desert, so that my chosen people can be refreshed.

When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs, where pools of blessing collect after the rains!

Harmony is as refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermon that falls on the mountains of Zion. And the LORD has pronounced his blessing, even life forevermore.

A person's words can be life-giving water; words of true wisdom are as refreshing as a bubbling brook.

The generous prosper and are satisfied; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

Search me [thoroughly], O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!

[ Story of the Lost Sheep ] "If a shepherd has one hundred sheep, and one wanders away and is lost, what will he do? Won't he leave the ninety-nine others and go out into the hills to search for the lost one?

"You search the Scriptures because you believe they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me!

[ The Unbelieving People Warned ] Later Jesus said to them again, "I am going away. You will search for me and die in your sin. You cannot come where I am going."

Deliverance

Tuesday, May 30, 2006

a WORD from God's Book
(photo: 7 Falls, Colorado Springs, CO)

Then the LORD told him, "You can be sure I have seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries for deliverance from their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering.

My eyes strain to see your deliverance, to see the truth of your promise fulfilled.

For I know that as you pray for me and as the Spirit of Jesus Christ helps me, this will all turn out for my deliverance.

First I predicted your deliverance; I declared what I would do, and then I did it--I saved you. No foreign god has ever done this before. You are witnesses that I am the only God," says the LORD.

[ Hannahs Prayer of Praise ] Then Hannah prayed: "My heart rejoices in the LORD! Oh, how the LORD has blessed me! Now I have an answer for my enemies, as I delight in your deliverance.

Exodus 3:7

a WORD from God's Book
(photo: San Louis Bay,CA)

"I am the LORD, and I do not change.

The LORD Almighty has spoken--who can change his plans? When his hand moves, who can stop him?"

But this is the LORD's reply: I would no more reject my people than I would change my laws of night and day, of earth and sky.

"Now it's time to change your ways! Turn to face God so he can wipe away your sins, pour out showers of blessing to refresh you

For God has reserved a priceless inheritance for his children. It is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.

He will take these weak mortal bodies of ours and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same mighty power that he will use to conquer everything, everywhere.

__________________________________________________________________________________
For you made us only a little lower than God, and you crowned us with glory and honor.

Teach me your ways, O LORD, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, that I may honor you.

Don't be impatient for the LORD to act! Travel steadily along his path. He will honor you, giving you the land.

Let the LORD's people show him reverence, for those who honor him will have all they need.

May we shout for joy when we hear of your victory, flying banners to honor our God. May the LORD answer all your prayers.

Favor

a WORD from God's Book

But I keep right on praying to you, LORD, hoping this is the time you will show me favor. In your unfailing love, O God, answer my prayer with your sure salvation.

The LORD mocks at mockers, but he shows favor to the humble.

We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the special favor of the Lord Jesus."

(E)ven while we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God's special favor that you have been saved!)

God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God.

a WORD from God's Book

"You'll take delight in God, the Mighty One, and look to him joyfully, boldly. You'll pray to him and he'll listen; he'll help you do what you've promised. You'll decide what you want and it will happen; your life will be bathed in light. To those who feel low you'll say, 'Chin up! Be brave!' and God will save them.

Joyfully you'll pull up buckets of water from the wells of salvation. And as you do it, you'll say, "Give thanks to God. Call out his name. Ask him anything! Shout to the nations, tell them what he's done, spread the news of his great reputation!

We're not in charge of how you live out the faith, looking over your shoulders, suspiciously critical. We're partners, working alongside you, joyfully expectant. I know that you stand by your own faith, not by ours.

Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of highest privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God's glory.

Ready

a WORD from God's Book
(photo: Steamboat Springs,CO)

_______________________________________________________________

The Lord is ready to help all those who call out to him. He helps those who really mean it when they call out to him.

Don't be obsessed with getting more material things. Be relaxed with what you have. Since God assured us, "I'll never let you down, never walk off and leave you," we can boldly quote, God is there, ready to help; I'm fearless no matter what.

But make sure in your hearts that Christ is Lord. Always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks you about the hope you have. Be ready to give the reason for it. But do it gently and with respect.

Peter fairly exploded with his good news: "It's God's own truth, nothing could be plainer: God plays no favorites! It makes no difference who you are or where you're from—if you want God and are ready to do as he says, the door is open.

"That explains it," said Paul. "John preached a baptism of radical life-change so that people would be ready to receive the One coming after him, who turned out to be Jesus. If you've been baptized in John's baptism, you're ready now for the real thing, for Jesus."

Light up

a WORD from God's Book
(photo: Steamboat Springs, CO 5/17/2006)
___________________________________________________________________________________

Revelation flows from me. My decisions light up the world. My deliverance arrives on the run, my salvation right on time. I'll bring justice to the peoples. Even faraway islands will look to me and take hope in my saving power.

O LORD, you are my light; yes, LORD, you light up my darkness.

Remember, our Message is not about ourselves; we're proclaiming Jesus Christ, the Master. All we are is messengers, errand runners from Jesus for you. It started when God said, "Light up the darkness!" and our lives filled up with light as we saw and understood God in the face of Christ, all bright and beautiful.

Work hard to feed hungry people. Satisfy the needs of those who are crushed. Then my blessing will light up your darkness. And the night of your suffering will become as bright as the noonday sun.

LORD, you have brought light to my life; my God, you light up my darkness.

Stream

a WORD from God's Book
(photo: Steamboat Springs, CO - yesterday)
_______________________________________________________________________________
The king's heart is like a stream of water directed by the LORD; he turns it wherever he pleases.

You visit the earth and cause it to overflow; You greatly enrich it; The stream of God is full of water; You prepare their grain, for thus You prepare the earth.

Jesus answered by quoting Deuteronomy: "It takes more than bread to stay alive. It takes a steady stream of words from God's mouth."

"For he will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes; but its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious in a year of drought Nor cease to yield fruit.

"But let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

Think

a WORD from God's Book
(photo: yesterday, Old Colorado City)
____________________________________________________________________________
What are mortals that you should think of us, mere humans that you should care for us?

So be sure to pay attention to what you hear. To those who are open to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But to those who are not listening, even what they think they have will be taken away from them."

Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.

Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, let me say one more thing as I close this letter. Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

All things

a WORD from God's Book
(photo: Maui)

Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O LORD, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things.

You gave him authority over all things." Now when it says "all things," it means nothing is left out. But we have not yet seen all of this happen.

For he must remain in heaven until the time for the final restoration of all things, as God promised long ago through his prophets.

Furthermore, because of Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us from the beginning, and all things happen just as he decided long ago.

But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don't need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you all things, and what he teaches is true--it is not a lie. So continue in what he has taught you, and continue to live in Christ.

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

Lift up your heads, O you gates; and be lifted up, you age-abiding doors, that the King of glory may come in.

Cause me to hear Your loving-kindness in the morning, for on You do I lean and in You do I trust. Cause me to know the way wherein I should walk, for I lift up my inner self to You.

I assure you that you can say to this mountain, `May God lift you up and throw you into the sea,' and your command will be obeyed. All that's required is that you really believe and do not doubt in your heart.

Know

a WORD from God's Book
(photo: WOW! Not just a bush - home cs)
___________________________________________________________________________________
"So what's new? I know all this. The question is, "How can mere mortals get right with God?'

But how can people call for help if they don't know who to trust? And how can they know who to trust if they haven't heard of the One who can be trusted? And how can they hear if nobody tells them?

Since the world in all its fancy wisdom never had a clue when it came to knowing God, God in his wisdom took delight in using what the world considered dumb--preaching, of all things!-to bring those who trust him into the way of salvation.

And this is the real and eternal life: That they know you, The one and only true God, And Jesus Christ, whom you sent.

We know very well that we are not set right with God by rule-keeping but only through personal faith in Jesus Christ. How do we know? We tried it--and we had the best system of rules the world has ever seen! Convinced that no human being can please God by self-improvement, we believed in Jesus as the Messiah so that we might be set right before God by trusting in the Messiah, not by trying to be good.

Gain

a WORD from God's Book

Happy is the person who finds wisdom and gains understanding.

Then you will understand what it means to fear the LORD, and you will gain knowledge of God.

And how do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul in the process? Is anything worth more than your soul?

Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I may have Christ.

[ The Priceless Gain of Knowing Christ ] Whatever happens, dear brothers and sisters, may the Lord give you joy. I never get tired of telling you this.

Proverbs 3:13 Proverbs 2:5 Matthew 16:26 Philippians 3:8 Philippians 3:1

Great

This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is changing lives everywhere, just as it changed yours that very first day you heard and understood the truth about God's great kindness to sinners.

Oh, what a wonderful God we have! How great are his riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his methods!

May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it. Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

God has given gifts to each of you from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Manage them well so that God's generosity can flow through you.

"So don't be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.

Yet true religion with contentment is great wealth.

Colossians 1:6 Romans 11:33 Ephesians 3:19 1 Peter 4:10 Luke 12:32 1 Timothy 6:6

Expect

a WORD from God's Book
(photo: Maui)
______________________________________________________________________________
The godly can look forward to happiness, while the wicked can expect only wrath.

Shouldn't we expect far greater glory when the Holy Spirit is giving life?

Be brave. Be strong. Don't give up. Expect GOD to get here soon.

But when you ask him, be sure that you really expect him to answer, for a doubtful mind is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.

GOD told them, "I've never quit loving you and never will. Expect love, love, and more love!

You, GOD, prescribed the right way to live; now you expect us to live it.

Proverbs 11:23 2 Corinthians 3:8 Psalm 31:24 James 1:6 Jeremiah 31:3 Psalm 119:4
