Ever since the world was created it has been possible to see the qualities of God that are not seen. I'm talking about his eternal power and about the fact that he is God. Those things can be seen in what he has made. So people have no excuse for what they do.

Make sure you stay alert to these qualities of gentle kindness and ruthless severity that exist side by side in God--ruthless with the deadwood, gentle with the grafted shoot. But don't presume on this gentleness. The moment you become deadwood, you're out of there.

For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other."

Long

Overflowing

Fault

We try to live in such a way that no one will be hindered from finding the Lord by the way we act, and so no one can find fault with our ministry.

Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe.

Anticipate

I can anticipate the response that is coming: "I know that all God's commands are spiritual, but I'm not. Isn't this also your experience?" Yes. I'm full of myself--after all, I've spent a long time in sin's prison.

With that kind of hope to excite us, nothing holds us back.

My eyes anticipate the night watches, That I may meditate on Your word.

Look ahead with joy. Anticipate what I'm creating: I'll create Jerusalem as sheer joy, create my people as pure delight.

Voice

No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he'll never let you be pushed past your limit; he'll always be there to help you come through it.

For God has reserved a priceless inheritance for his children. It is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.

God saved us and chose us to be his holy people. We did nothing to deserve this, but God planned it because he is so kind. Even before time began God planned for Christ Jesus to show kindness to us.

The name of the LORD will be remembered forever, and he will be famous for all time to come.

He asked to live a long time, and you promised him life that never ends.

When the Scriptures say that he will put everything under his power, they don't include God. It was God who put everything under the power of Christ.

I send this letter to you in God's church at Corinth, Christians cleaned up by Jesus and set apart for a God-filled life. I include in my greeting all who call out to Jesus, wherever they live. He's their Master as well as ours!

We aren't making outrageous claims here. We're sticking to the limits of what God has set for us. But there can be no question that those limits reach to and include you.

That's why I urge you to pray for absolutely everything, ranging from small to large. Include everything as you embrace this God-life, and you'll get God's everything.

Cheer

When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.

When Jesus heard him, he stopped and said, "Tell him to come here. "So they called the blind man. "Cheer up," they said. "Come on, he's calling you!"

That's why we live with such good cheer. You won't see us drooping our heads or dragging our feet! Cramped conditions here don't get us down. They only remind us of the spacious living conditions ahead.

Now I take limitations in stride, and with good cheer, these limitations that cut me down to size--abuse, accidents, opposition, bad breaks. I just let Christ take over! And so the weaker I get, the stronger I become.

"In that case," Eli said, "cheer up! May the God of Israel grant the request you have asked of him."

Good people, cheer GOD! Right-living people sound best when praising.

Coming

The wise look ahead to see what is coming, but fools deceive themselves.

For see, the day of the LORD is coming--the terrible day of his fury and fierce anger. The land will be destroyed and all the sinners with it.

And when he comes, he will convince the world of its sin, and of God's righteousness, and of the coming judgment.

For the LORD is coming! He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness and all the nations with his truth.

Another reason for right living is that you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for the coming of our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

Until faith in Christ was shown to us as the way of becoming right with God, we were guarded by the law. We were kept in protective custody, so to speak, until we could put our faith in the coming Savior.

Spring

One day I went strolling through the orchard, looking for signs of spring, Looking for buds about to burst into flower, anticipating readiness, ripeness.

Then he gives the command and it (snow) all melts; he breathes on winter--suddenly it's spring!

Send out your Spirit and they spring to life-- the whole countryside in bloom and blossom.

Who sends the rain that satisfies the parched ground and makes the tender grass spring up?

The fig trees are budding, and the grapevines are in blossom. How delicious they smell! Yes, spring is here!

The Sovereign LORD will show his justice to the nations of the world. Everyone will praise him! His righteousness will be like a garden in early spring, filled with young plants springing up everywhere.

Real

The real children of Abraham, then, are all those who put their faith in God.

They were amazed at his teaching, for he taught as one who had real authority--quite unlike the teachers of religious law.

For these rules were only shadows of the real thing, Christ himself.

This is real love. It is not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

(real) Love means doing what God has commanded us, and he has commanded us to love one another, just as you heard from the beginning.

So you see, it isn't enough just to have faith. Faith that doesn't show itself by good deeds is no faith at all--it is dead and useless.

Now someone may argue, "Some people have faith; others have good deeds." I say, "I can't see your faith if you don't have good deeds, but I will show you my faith through my good deeds."

But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are a kingdom of priests, God's holy nation, his very own possession. This is so you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.

Dear children, let us stop just saying we love each other; let us really show it by our actions.

Listen

Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.

And we can be confident that he will listen to us whenever we ask him for anything in line with his will.

And the Scriptures also say, "He is the stone that makes people stumble, the rock that will make them fall." They stumble because they do not listen to God's word or obey it, and so they meet the fate that has been planned for them.

If you just listen and don't obey, it is like looking at your face in a mirror but doing nothing to improve your appearance.

Calm
